The playing of the songs is outstanding!
Each of the songs is like a celebration -
just to let the beauty of the song come out...

"The first set is no slouch, looking like a dream set that might have been penned by some fans in the parking lot before the show. Cold Rain opens. It was only played three times in ’73, and once in ’74 on the last night of the farewell stand at Winterland (it was the opener that night too). Cassidy was played only once before, early in 1974. And then we get Scarlet Begonias, Music Never Stopped, and Crazy Fingers, all in a row. Whew! But set two opens with the song that most fans probably didn’t even allow themselves to think about ever hearing again.

The crowd’s reaction to St. Stephen is priceless stuff (equaled again upon its second return in 1983). The song’s jam demonstrates the 1976-typical slowly spinning kaleidoscope of sound right from the first notes. It swirls and swirls going further and further out – Jerry finding one beautiful space after another. They all key back together for the last verse as if they’ve been playing the tune every night since it was last played on 10/31/71. When they shift from “What would be the answer to the answer man?” into Eyes it is dreamy perfection. Is this really happening? You will be in the giddiest of Grateful Dead spaces here.

This Eyes is perfectly described as jubilant. The super up tempo treatment of the song is pure pleasure. Also, it has another new 1976 twist: they build the song backwards with the long exit jam coming before the song itself. This one goes on for 8 minutes before the first verse, and it serves to prolong the giddy zone all the way through. Your dog might even start twirling around the living room to this song, his or her little puppy paws rising and falling like incense smoke overhead."by deadlistening

Tubesnakes are a blues band from Stord in NORWAY formed around 1995, A group of committed serious musicians who are really passionate about what they do. So far they have released two critically acclaimed CDs (Tubesnakes 1998 and Texas minded 2001) and they are a popular live band. Tubesnakes consists of: Lars Vad (guitar / vocals) Johnny Stensletten (bass) Per Inge Stensletten (drums / percussion) Per Kenneth Hauan (organ / piano)

'Texas minded' was partly recorded in Austin,TX. in October 2001, starring two great guitar players – Alan Haynes and John McVey. Grammy winning studio engineer: Mark Nathan.
The rest of the songs were recorded in Norway, at “Lydloftet Studio” in Ølen, Norway.

Alan Haynes (February 19, 1956), born in Houston, Texas, is an American Texas Blues guitarist. Alan has been playing professionally since the 1970s and has performed with a variety of Blues legends that include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, Albert King, The Fabulous Thunderbirds (1980's version with Jimmie Vaughan), Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, and Otis Rush among others. He now resides in Austin, Texas and plays locally in and around Texas' major cities, especially Houston (where he performs nearly every month), occasionally in Dallas and Fort Worth, and also Europe, where he has a large following in Scandinavian countries, Germany, Denmark and Israel.

Not much to say about this. I do think this guy is still putting out some of the best music today. Lot of working on songs here.  Finding studio outtakes from this guy is almost impossible. Fidelity leaves a bit to be desired but I've tried to clean it up. With James Dewar and Reg Isidore.  No Covers.

The Westwood One Budweiser Concert series ran from 1981 to 1986 and featured a mix of contemporary and vintage R&B acts. While the Westwood One Superstars In Concert and In Concert Shows had multiple national sponsors, Budweiser was the exclusive sponsor.  The Budweiser commercials usually mimic a popular R&B style...in the case of this show, my favorite is the imitation of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight on the first commercial.  

These Budweiser Concert shows don't turn up very often on EBAY and when they do, they're often at ridiculously high prices.  This one was in excellent condition and digitizing it was a snap...the only negative is that the show is missing the cue sheet. 

Lakeside had a #1 R&B hit in 1980 with "Fantastic Voyage," which crossed over to the Top 40 charts and got up to #55.  This is fun show; the band is in good voice; one of 'em reminds me of the main singer from the Dells.

In January and February of 1997, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers did a twenty night residency at the Fillmore in San Francisco.  Seeing as how we're at the 20th Anniversary of that historic run of concerts, I figured it's time to digitize my original high bias cassettes from the KFOG broadcast of the Feb. 7th 1997 show.

The 3-cd Crystal Cat bootleg of this show ("The Fillmore 1997, CC516-18) has the complete Feb. 7th show in similar sound quality to my cassette tapes, but uses "bonus cuts" from 1978, 1989, and 1995
to fill up the third CD.The Crystal Cat bootleg edits out all of the KFOG commentary.  For this version, I've chosen to go with an "archival" approach, presenting the entire show as broadcast at the time.  And since KFOG broadcast short segments of the concerts from five other nights leading up to the Feb. 7 broadcast, even if you've got the Crystal Cat boot this will give you something new.  I have four out of the five of those short broadcasts and they're here as "bonus" tracks.

Flac files of wavs.  I've set this up so that if you burn it to CD, the start of each CD is the introduction to the next segment of the show (after the band took a break).  Because this is a huge file, I've broken it into three parts.

Star Is Just a Sun creates an enveloping mood of whispered romantic drama, with an aching atmosphere that strongly recalls Mark Hollis' solo record. Endless soft layers of warm keyboard and organ sounds and reverbed guitar cradle each song. A heartbeat-like pulse comes to the forefront in "Love Is So Real," and continues into "Beauty King," the only tune with a driving drumbeat. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Ola Flottum occasionally sings falsetto, but always sings softly, enhancing the keen sense of intimacy that the White Birch create so beautifully, while leaving attention to the poetic lyrics optional for listeners.

This is not something you might expect as a weekend post. This music is best suited for night time or rainy day listening and even better with someone you care about. Twist one up, lay back, drift and enjoy.

First off this comes from our good friends over at  the "Elvis For Friends" site.  I'm pretty tired of posting Elvis things but this is one (if you haven't) you've gotta here.  This is the king in all of his drugged-out glory. Captured Live! was a series of syndicated concerts produced for the stations of the RKO Radio Network and affiliated radio stations from 1982 through 1984.  An announcement Billboard Dec 12 1981 says the shows were to be 26 one hour specials featuring top rock performers in concert settings, with the series to begin in March 1982.

It appears that the 1982 shows were distributed on reel-to-reel tape.  In 1983, they switched to LP sets.  Stations received both a hosted version with prerecorded announcements, and an unhosted version with a script, allowing the local disc jockey to do the lead ins to each segment.  The unhosted version had "beds" of a live concert audience for the disc jockey to talk over, making it sound like he was at the show.  Most of these sets of both version (hosted and unhosted) have been broken up into two versions for resale on the collector's market.

The LPs had a Disc Code numbering system that combined the first letters of the show (“CL”) with the number of the show for that year (1, 2, 3…)  with the year (either 1983 or 1984). As an example, the first show of 1984 was CL 184, the second show was CL 284, etc.)

The RKO radio network ran into trouble when a television advertising billing scandal provoked the FCC to force RKO out of the broadcasting business.  In 1985, the RKO Radio Networks was purchased by United Stations Programming Network and the Captured Live! series came to an end.
